What the News Guard does

News Guard warns you when a trade is open and a scheduled news release is about to come out. If you allow it, it can also close or reduce the trade, following rules you set.

4 min readUpdated Sep 30, 2026

News Guard compares your open trades with the economic news calendar every minute. When big news is about to come out and it can hit one of your trades, you get an alert with the numbers you need to decide. If you allow it, FxMind can also close or reduce the trade for you.

An example

It is 8:18 in New York and you bought EURUSD. The US inflation report, called CPI, comes out in 12 minutes. The alert says: CPI in 12 minutes. After the last 12 CPI reports, EURUSD moved 45 pips on average in 15 minutes. Your stop loss is 18 pips away. A pip is the smallest usual price step, 0.0001 on EURUSD. A stop loss is the order that closes the trade if price goes against you by a set distance. What you do next is your decision.

When you get an alert

  • You have a trade open, and
  • news for one of its currencies falls inside the time window. By default that is from 30 minutes before to 15 minutes after the release, and
  • the news is at least as important as the level set for the alert.

Each alert shows the news and its time, how far that market usually moved after it, how far away your stop loss is, and your prop firm's news rule if you entered one. You get one alert per trade and per news release, not a stream of repeats.

Where the alert arrives

It arrives in the app inbox, and by the channels you switch on in Settings, on the Notifications tab: email, push on your phone or browser, and on Pro and above Telegram or Discord. A guard alert is always kept in your inbox. If you have a guarded link, guard alerts cannot be fully silenced: push or email stays on, because a guard that may close your trade has to be able to tell you. See Settings, tab by tab.

Alert only, or act

On Trader, News Guard only sends alerts. On Pro and above it can also act on the accounts you allow. With a normal read-only link, FxMind can only warn you. To let it act, you need three things: a guarded link (made with your master password), two-step sign-in (2FA), and your permission on the Guards page. It can then close a trade or part of it, move a stop loss to the entry price or cancel a waiting order. It never opens a trade.

  1. Turn on two-step sign-in.
  2. In Accounts, open the account menu and choose Upgrade to guarded. Type the master password and tick the box. See manage a linked account.
  3. In Guards, press Allow automatic actions and read the text. The steps are in guard actions: permission and receipts.

For each rule you then choose what FxMind does:

Warn only
Sends alerts, never touches the account. This is the default
Ask me first
Sends an alert by push, Telegram, Discord and in the app, and acts only if you tap Act. If you do not answer in time, it does what you chose when you gave permission
Act at once
Acts as soon as the rule reaches your level, then sends you a receipt
Spread limit
If the spread was wider than your limit, it does not close, and the receipt says so
Withdraw permission
Stops every automatic action on the account at once

How fast it acts

Move a stop loss
113 ms
Close a trade
119 ms
Cancel a waiting order
111 ms

We measured these on a demo account. 1 ms is a thousandth of a second. Your broker and the market at that moment will change them.

No AI makes these decisions

The guards are fixed rules: news times, your trades and simple math. No AI decides anything here, so the same situation always gives the same result. It is not a signal and it is not advice. See also set your prop firm rules.
