How your trades get into the journal

Nothing to import and nothing to type when an account is linked. Where the trades come from, how they are grouped, when they appear, and what to do when something looks wrong.

When you link an MT5 or MT4 account, you do not import anything. FxMind reads your trade history from the broker (the company that holds your account), and from then on new trades arrive as you make them. No account to link? You can import a file or type a trade by hand instead.

The first load

On the first connection FxMind pulls your history from the broker and builds the journal from it. How far back it goes is up to your broker. Most keep months or years, some keep less. A new account has nothing to pull, so an empty journal is correct rather than broken.

Large histories take a minute or two. The account shows syncing while it works.

How trades are grouped

Brokers do not record trades. They record deals: every fill, every part-close, every swap charge. A single trade in your head can be a dozen of them.

FxMind groups deals by the position they belong to, so what you see is the trade you actually took: one entry price averaged across your fills, one exit averaged across your closes, with commission and swap already counted. Scaling into a position gives you one trade, not five. MT4 has no positions made of several fills: each order is its own trade, and closing part of it keeps it one trade with two exits. If the grouping is not what you want, you can merge or split trades.

Open any trade to see the money in four lines: Gross (before costs), Commission, Swap and Net (what is left).

When something looks wrong

Trades missing from months ago
Your broker's history does not go back that far. Nothing can recover what it will not send.
A trade is missing entirely
Follow the steps below.
Profit differs from your platform
Check whether your platform is showing gross or net. FxMind shows net, which is after commission and swap.
Two trades that should be one
They were separate positions at the broker. The journal follows the broker's position ids. You can merge them by hand.

A trade is missing: what to do

  1. Open Accounts and look at the status next to the account. It should say live. If it says login failed or stopped, fix the link first: link an account.
  2. Open the account's Account actions menu and press Sync history now. New deals show up in the journal within a few seconds.
  3. Open Journal and check the filters above the list. A date filter or an account filter can hide the trade.
  4. Still missing? Write to support with the account, and the trade's date and symbol (for example EURUSD), and we will look at what the broker actually sent.
