Import an XLSX file or a broker statement, with a preview and undo

Bring in trades from a CSV or XLSX file or an MT5/MT4 statement export. You see every trade before anything is saved, column mappings are remembered, and an import can be undone.

If your account is linked, your trades arrive by themselves and you do not need this. Import is for history from an account you cannot link, or from a broker FxMind does not connect to. A CSV file is a table saved as plain text. Every trading platform and every spreadsheet (Excel, Numbers, Google Sheets) can save one.

Get the file from your platform

MT5
Toolbox, History, right click, Report, save as HTML. Or open it in a spreadsheet and save as CSV or XLSX
MT4
Account History, right click, Save as Detailed Report, save as HTML. Or open it in a spreadsheet and save as CSV or XLSX
cTrader
History, Export, CSV

Import a CSV or XLSX file

  1. Open Journal. At the bottom of the trade list, under Also in Trades, open Import trades.
  2. In Import into, pick a journal (a journal with no linked account) or New journal. For a new one, type a Journal name and the Account currency.
  3. Drop the file on the box, or pick it. CSV, TXT and XLSX work, up to 20 MB. The file is read in your browser. Only the trades you import are sent to FxMind.
  4. FxMind finds the usual column names by itself. If it says a required column is missing, press Change columns and pick the right column for each field (symbol, side, open time, lots, open price and so on).
  5. Open More options if the numbers look wrong: the time zone of the times in the file (MT4 and MT5 use the broker's server time), the date format, Decimal comma for numbers like 1,0850, and whether costs are written as positive numbers.
  6. Read the preview. Ready to import counts the good rows. Rows with a problem lists the first bad lines and why.
  7. Press Check if you want to see which trades are New and which are Already in this journal.
  8. Press Import (it shows the number of trades).

Next time, the same file from the same broker can be recognised. After you map the columns, type a name in Save this mapping (for example XM MT5 export) and press Save. When a new file has the same columns, FxMind offers Use this mapping.

Import the same file again later, after more trades closed: trades already there are updated, not doubled.

Import an MT5 or MT4 statement directly

The HTML statement needs no column mapping. FxMind reads positions, deals and balance lines from it.

  1. On the Import trades page, press Import it directly in the line that starts with "Have an MT5 or MT4 statement (.htm) instead?".
  2. Pick the Platform (MT5 or MT4) and what to Import into: a journal, or a linked account. For a linked account, the history is filled in without doubling what FxMind already received.
  3. Check the Broker time zone. It is filled in for a linked account. Change it if the times in the preview are wrong.
  4. Drop the HTML file. You see a preview with New trades, Already in this journal and Deposits and withdrawals.
  5. Press Import (it shows the number of trades).

Undo an import

  1. On the Import trades page, press Import history.
  2. Find the file in the list. The columns show how many trades were new, updated or skipped.
  3. Press Undo and confirm. It removes exactly what that import created. Trades from other imports, trades you typed and trades synced from your broker are never touched.

Limits and problems

  • The Free plan keeps trades from the last 90 days. Older rows are skipped and the preview says how many.
  • A row is refused when its symbol, side, lots, open price or time is missing, when it closed without a close price, or when the same trade appears twice in the file. The preview names the reason.
  • Another import is still running: wait for it to finish, then try again.
  • The import did not finish: nothing after the error was saved. Check your connection and import again.
