The desk tour, tooltips and the order ticket in plain words

How the first-open tour works, where to find a plain explanation of every button, and what the order ticket tells you before you press Buy or Sell.

The trading desk has a lot on one screen. FxMind explains it in three ways: a tour, tooltips, and plain words inside the order ticket. Nothing here changes what an order does.

The tour

The first time your account opens the trading desk, a tour starts by itself. It rings one part at a time and explains it in two sentences: your pairs (the watchlist), the chart, how long one candle is (M5, H1, D1), indicators, drawing tools, buy or sell, how big the trade is, stop loss and take profit, your trades, news and the analyst.

  • Use Next, Back or Skip the tour. Escape closes it and the arrow keys move between steps.
  • A part that is not on screen is skipped (a closed panel, drawing tools switched off, no ticket open).
  • On a phone or tablet the tour points at the bottom tab bar (Watchlist, Trade, Trades, More) and explains it in a card at the bottom.
  • Finishing or skipping it is saved on your account, so it does not start again by itself.

To start it again, press the ? in the desk's top bar, or on a phone open More and choose Desk tour.

Tooltips

Hover an icon button with the mouse, or focus it with the keyboard, and a tooltip shows its name in bold with one plain sentence under it. They cover the top bar, the chart strip, the drawing tools, the watchlist, the trade rows, price alarms and every tab of the side panel and the trades panel. Tooltips do not open on a touch screen; the phone layout keeps visible words on its bottom tabs and in the More list instead.

What the order ticket tells you before the click

  • Under the Risk box it says in money what the trade loses if the stop is hit, and what it makes if the target is hit, for example "You make 120.00 USD if the target is hit." With a stop but no take profit it says so in one sentence. These are numbers the ticket already worked out.
  • A dotted word with a ? sits on Order type (market, limit, stop), Stop loss, Take profit, Risk, Reward, Size (lots), Risk % and Spread. Tap or hover it for two sentences in plain words.
  • Under Stop and target, one line says what the By price, By pips and By money switch means.
  • Before you pick a side, the empty ticket says what comes next: size, a stop loss and a take profit, FxMind checks your rules, and the last button is always pressed by you.
Bid
The price you can sell at
Ask
The price you can buy at
Spread
The gap between bid and ask, which you pay when you open a trade

When something is empty

  • No linked account. The ticket and the trades panel say No linked account and offer Link an account (goes to Accounts) and Open the demo.
  • Open trades, Pending orders, Closed today. Each empty table says what puts something in it: Buy or Sell in the ticket; Limit or Stop in the ticket; a trade closed today.
  • Market closed. The ticket says, for example, "EURUSD is closed. It opens in 3 h 12 min." Sending waits; scheduling stays available.
  • Drawings. "No drawings yet. Pick a tool, then click the chart." until you make the first one.

The full map of the desk is in The desk map, and your first order is in Place your first trade.
