Draw on the chart

Trend lines, levels, channels, fibs and the position tool: where the tools are, how to place them, how they are saved, and why an old one eventually disappears.

The chart on the trading desk is ours, built for FxMind, and everything you draw on it is yours. Drawings are saved to your account, come back on your phone, and do not care which timeframe you were on when you drew them (a timeframe is how much time one candle covers).

Where the tools are

  • On a computer: along the top of each chart, in its own toolbar, next to the templates button.
  • On a phone: one row under the chart.
  • To hide them when you want the whole screen for candles: press the pen button in the top bar (on a computer), or switch Drawing tools off in Desk settings under Panels (works on a phone too).

Drawing one

  1. Pick a tool. The Common group shows the usual ones; press More tools for the rest.
  2. Click (or tap) where the drawing starts.
  3. Click (or tap) where it ends. A trend line takes two points, a rectangle two corners, a channel three. A horizontal line takes one.
Magnet
Snaps your point to the nearest open, high, low or close, so a level sits exactly on the candle rather than near it.
Stay in tool
Keeps the same tool after you finish one, for drawing several in a row.
Hide drawings
Takes every drawing off the screen without deleting anything.
Lock drawings
Leaves them visible but stops you moving one by accident.

Changing one

  1. Choose the Cursor tool and click a drawing to select it. Handles appear at its points.
  2. Drag a point to move it, or drag the middle to move the whole thing.
  3. Use the Selected drawing panel to change the color, thickness, line style (solid, dashed, dotted) or fill, or to lock, hide or delete it.

Ctrl Z undoes, Ctrl Shift Z (or Ctrl Y) redoes, and Delete removes the selected drawing. Clear the chart removes every drawing on that symbol after you confirm, and you can undo it until you reload the page.

The position tool

Long position plans a buy and Short position plans a sell, each with its stop and target. Place one on the chart and it shows the risk, the reward and the RR (the target's distance divided by the stop's) of that exact trade. The risk in money needs your account size and the symbol's details. Without them it shows the distance only.

Set Size in lots in the Selected drawing panel, then press Place order. That opens the order ticket already filled in with the entry, stop and target you drew. Nothing is sent until you confirm it in the ticket. It is the fastest way to answer whether a setup is worth it before you open the ticket.

How they are saved

Drawings are saved per symbol, against your account, a moment after you stop moving them. The word Saved next to the tools tells you when they are safely away. They are tied to prices and times, not to bar numbers, so the same line is in the same place on the 5-minute chart and on the daily one. Draw on your computer and it is on your phone.

Why an old drawing disappears

A drawing you have not touched for 180 days, on candles that are far off the left of the screen, is cleared away on its own. It is the clutter that builds up after a year of trading: levels from a range that broke last spring, channels off bars nobody will look at again. Clearing it keeps a chart readable.

What counts as old
Both things must be true: drawn on bars older than 180 days, and not edited in 180 days.
Drawn today on old candles
Kept. Studying history is not clutter.
A level you want forever
Lock it. A locked drawing is never cleared away.

If a line matters beyond this year, lock it. That is the chart's way of saying keep this, and nothing removes it afterwards.
