Did you close too early? Would a wider stop have saved the trade? This tool replays your own closed trades on the real price candles with a different exit, and compares the result with what happened. It changes nothing in your journal.
Run it
- Open Journal, What works, then the What-if exits card.
- Pick the account. One account at a time, so two currencies are never mixed.
- In Try a different exit, fill in one or more rules: Stop, in pips or Stop, in R, Target, in pips or Target, in R, Move stop to break-even at +R, Trailing stop, in pips, or Close after N hours.
- Press Run the what-if. Clear empties the form.
A pip is the usual price step: 0.0001 on EURUSD, 0.01 on USDJPY. R is your planned risk on the trade: 2R means twice what you were willing to lose. Break-even means moving the stop to your entry price, so the trade closes at about zero if price comes back. A trailing stop follows the price at a fixed distance.
Read the result
Original vs. what-if shows two columns, What actually happened and With this what-if, for Net P&L, Win rate, Profit factor, Average R and Trades. The table under it lists each trade with its original and what-if result, and What-if exit: which rule ended it (Stop, Target, Break-even, Trailing stop, Time exit), or Never triggered, which means it kept its real exit.
What to know
- A rule in R needs the trade's own stop. Trades with no stop are skipped for that rule.
- A trade with no price history keeps its real result, and the page counts them.
- When stop and target were both touched inside the same one-minute candle, it assumes the stop was hit first.
- One run takes the newest 2,000 trades. If your history is larger than a run can replay, the page asks you to narrow the date range or the pairs.
- It is a test on past prices, not a promise. Spread and slippage can change real fills.
- It is part of the paid plans (Trader and above).
