Short answer
- All four journals start below FxMind's first paid plan ($49) and cover more markets, such as stocks and options. Edgewonk is $197 for 12 months. TraderSync and Tradervue start at $29.95 a month, TradeZella at $35.
- TradeZella, TraderSync and Edgewonk bring in MT5 trades by themselves. Tradervue imports MT5 trades from a report file. FxMind links MT5 and MT4 accounts with the investor password.
- A journal looks back at closed trades. FxMind also watches the trades that are still open, against the news calendar and your prop firm limits, and warns you before either one hits (warnings from Trader, $49; guards that act from Pro, $89). Its journal fills itself from the same link.
- TradeZella comes closest: it has an economic calendar and a free PropFirm Sync dashboard for daily loss and drawdown. FxMind now has replay and backtesting too, in the Strategy Lab, on every plan including Free. If you trade stocks or options, pick a journal from this list.
Words used here
- Trading journal
- A record of every trade you take: entry, exit, size, result and your notes. Its reports show which habits make or lose money.
- MT5 and MT4
- MetaTrader 5 and MetaTrader 4, the trading platforms many forex brokers and prop firms use.
- Investor password
- A second MT5 or MT4 password that can see the account but cannot open, change or close a trade.
- Auto sync
- Trades arrive in the journal by themselves. The other way is a file import: you download a report and upload it.
- Prop firm
- A company that lets you trade its money after you pass a paid test, called an evaluation or challenge. Pass it and you get a funded account. Break a rule and you lose it.
- Daily loss limit and drawdown
- The most a prop firm account may lose in one day, and in total. Drawdown is how far the account has fallen from its starting point or its high.
- High-impact news
- The few releases that move prices most, such as US inflation (CPI), US jobs (NFP) and interest rate decisions.
- Trade replay and backtesting
- Replaying the market candle by candle to review a trade or to test a strategy on past prices.
What a journal does, and what it does not
A trading journal saves each trade after it happens and turns the list into reports: win rate, average win and loss, which days and which setups lose money. That is how many traders spot a costly habit, such as trading too much after a loss. All four journals here do this well, and they cover far more markets than FxMind does.
A journal works on the past. It does not know that US inflation data comes out in 12 minutes while you hold 2 lots of EURUSD, or that your prop firm account is $400 away from its daily limit. That live part is what FxMind was built for, and it is the main difference in this comparison.
The five tools, in a few lines each
TradeZella
Lists 500+ broker and prop firm integrations. MT4 and MT5 sync with your server name, login and investor password. 300+ reports, trade replay on Pro and Ultra, backtesting on 11+ years of data, an economic calendar, and Zella AI on every plan. PropFirm Sync, free for all users, tracks daily loss and drawdown and says it warns you before you break a rule. Covers stocks, options, forex and crypto (crypto added by hand).
TraderSync
Three plans with a 7-day free trial at the Elite level and no card needed. MT4 and MT5 are listed with auto sync. Market replay for backtesting on every plan, the Cypher AI assistant with 5, 15 or 60 messages a day, and phone apps for iOS and Android. Covers forex, US stocks and options, crypto, CFDs and ETFs.
Tradervue
A free plan that imports up to 30 trades a month (one older FAQ on its site still says 100), and two paid plans with a 7-day trial. 80+ platform integrations. MT5 trades come in from an HTML report file, not by auto sync. More than 100 reports on Gold, and entries and exits drawn on TradingView charts. Covers stocks, options and forex.
Edgewonk
One plan with every feature, paid once a year, and a 14-day money-back guarantee. Unlimited journals, accounts and trades. MT4 and MT5 sync through MetaTrader's own report publishing (FTP), which you switch on in your terminal with a 60-minute refresh. There is no phone app; Edgewonk says you can use it in your phone's browser.
FxMind
Links an MT5 or MT4 account with the investor password (1 account on Free, up to 10 on Desk); the journal fills itself, with 90 days of history on Free and every trade on paid plans. Every trade says whether you opened it inside a high-impact release, on every plan. From Trader: the P&L calendar, win rate, profit factor and breakdowns, News Guard, which warns before high-impact news lands on an open trade, and Prop Rule Guard, which warns as you near a firm's daily or total loss (alerts only). Pro adds guards that act: close a trade, close half, move the stop or cancel orders on accounts you allow, plus order entry on your own account with a rule check before you send. It never opens a trade. The charts are FxMind's own renderer, with 40 indicators and 15 drawing tools that follow you from the desktop to the phone, and the Strategy Lab replays two years of 1-minute candles on 48 instruments and now runs an automated backtest from rules or a strategy described in words. MT5 and MT4 link today, plus an MT5/MT4 statement or XLSX import with a preview and undo for history that predates the link; other platforms import a CSV file. On MT4 an open trade shows live on the dashboard and the desk, and reaches the journal when it closes.
Prices side by side
TradeZella changed its prices on 14 July 2026; people who subscribed before keep their old price. Edgewonk's plan card and button show $197, while the same page also mentions $169 for countries outside the EU and UK.
Per month, Edgewonk is the cheapest paid journal here: $197 for 12 months is about $16.42 a month. The cheapest monthly plans are TraderSync Pro and Tradervue Silver at $29.95. FxMind Trader at $49 costs less than Tradervue Gold ($49.95) and TraderSync Premium ($49.95), and more than every entry plan. The 14-day trial is full Pro, no card, with 100 analyst questions a month and 3 strategy drafts a day; trade ideas are included.

What only FxMind does
Checked against the products researched on 30 September 2026 (their own pages first). Each line is something we did not find at any of them.
- A live MT4 and MT5 link with the read-only investor password. No EA, no install: open trades and profit in seconds. Others re-sync every few hours, need an EA, take statements or sell real time as an add-on.
- News at the moment of every trade. Each trade says whether you opened it inside a high-impact release or held it through one, with the usual move measured on our own candles.
- Prop rules watched live, before the breach. 10 firms and 641 presets for forex, warnings by email and push, and actions on the accounts you allow, with your own limits on top. The AI never opens a trade for you.
- An analyst whose every sentence cites a stored fact: your trades, the calendar, COT, headlines, candles and prop rules. Trade ideas are on every paid plan and in the 14-day trial; each has Open in ticket, which fills the desk's order ticket with the idea's entry, stop and target for you to check, size and send. Nothing is sent automatically.
- A trading desk on your own MT4 or MT5 account, with a rule check before you send. No journal we researched has order entry.
- Community with verified results. A setup's result in R and pips comes from the broker link, not from what the poster types. Following is your choice, and the trade is managed automatically only if you allow it.
- Practice on the real rules. Practise a prop challenge with the same engine as the live guard, or a past release with its usual move.
- English, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese across the app, the analyst and the briefs.
The part a journal does not cover: the trade that is still open
It is 8:18 in New York. You bought 2 lots of EURUSD, and your stop loss is 18 pips away (a pip is the smallest price step; on 2 lots of EURUSD each pip is worth about $20). US inflation data (CPI) comes out at 8:30. Over the last 12 CPI releases, EURUSD moved 45 pips on average in the first 15 minutes.
A journal records what happens at 8:31. FxMind's News Guard tells you at 8:18, with those two numbers side by side: the usual move and your stop distance. From Trader, Prop Rule Guard also checks your firm's news rule and how much of today's loss limit is already used, and warns you at 70% and 90% of a limit. On Pro, if you allow it on that account, a guard can close the trade, close half or move the stop within limits you set.
Who each one is for
Which FxMind plan. A prop trader who wants warnings starts on Trader ($49): News Guard and Prop Rule Guard warn before a release or a loss limit hits, and the full analytics start there. Pro ($89) acts: order entry, guards that close a trade or move a stop on accounts you allow, the nightly review and the prop-rule simulator. Free is enough to try the calendar and one linked account. See pricing.
Using a journal and FxMind together
They do not exclude each other. A trader who journals stocks in TradeZella or TraderSync can link the same MT5 or MT4 account to FxMind for the live warnings and the Strategy Lab. With the investor password, neither tool can place or close a trade. FxMind asks for the master password only if you want it to act on that account.
If you are new and not sure yet, start with what costs nothing: FxMind Free has the news calendar with usual price moves, one linked account with 90 days of journal, and CSV import, and Tradervue has a free plan too. See the features and pricing pages for every plan.
Questions
- 01
Which trading journal is the cheapest?
Among the paid plans, Edgewonk: $197 for 12 months on its pricing page, about $16.42 a month. Tradervue and FxMind both have free plans. The cheapest monthly plans are TraderSync Pro and Tradervue Silver at $29.95.
- 02
Which journals sync MT5 by themselves?
TradeZella (server, login and investor password), TraderSync (listed with auto sync) and Edgewonk (MetaTrader's own FTP report publishing from your terminal). Tradervue imports MT5 trades from a report file. FxMind links MT5 and MT4 accounts with the investor password.
- 03
Does any of these journals warn me before news?
TradeZella has an economic calendar and an AI agent that flags economic events. On 17 September 2026 we found no warning tied to your open trades on any of the four sites. FxMind's News Guard does that on Trader and above, and Prop Rule Guard warns near your firm's loss limits from Trader too.
- 04
Can FxMind replace my journal?
For a forex trader on MT5 or MT4 who wants trades saved by themselves, stats like win rate and profit factor, bar-by-bar replay and a place to test an idea, yes. If you need stocks, options or more than two years of backtest history, keep one of the four journals.
- 05
Do they refund?
TradeZella has a no refund policy after sign-up, TraderSync payments are non-refundable and Tradervue sales are final. Edgewonk offers a 14-day money-back guarantee. FxMind does not refund; you can try Pro free for 14 days instead.
