Short answer
- Tools that protect a prop firm account come in three kinds: trackers that warn you (PropJournal), cloud copiers with equity protection (Traders Connect, Duplikium), and Expert Advisors that run inside your MT5 terminal (KT Equity Protector, News Filter Protector).
- Most cost less than FxMind Pro ($89 a month); FxMind Trader is $49. PropJournal Pro is $19 a month and alerts at 70% and 90% of a limit, like FxMind. Traders Connect starts at $10 per account a month. An equity protector EA costs $30 once.
- Several act harder than FxMind: they close everything and stop trading on their own. That needs your trading password in the cloud or an EA running in your terminal.
- FxMind Trader ($49 a month, 2 accounts) warns at 70% and 90% of a limit and before news, on a read-only MT5 or MT4 link. Pro ($89 a month, up to 3 accounts) adds the actions, only on accounts where you allow it. Both include the news calendar and the journal.
Words used here
- Prop firm
- A company that lets you trade its money after you pass a paid test, the evaluation or challenge. Pass it and you trade a funded account. Break a rule and you lose it.
- Daily loss limit and maximum loss
- The most the account may lose in one day, and in total. See our guide to the daily loss limit for a worked example.
- Equity
- The account balance plus or minus the result of trades still open. Most firms check their limits against equity.
- High-impact news and news rules
- Big releases such as US inflation (CPI) and jobs (NFP). Some firms forbid holding or opening trades in a window around them.
- Lot
- The size of a trade. Some firms cap how many lots you may trade at once.
- EA (Expert Advisor)
- A small program that runs inside MetaTrader and can place or close trades. It only works while that terminal is open, often on a rented server called a VPS.
- Trade copier
- A service that copies trades from one account to others. Many add equity protection that closes trades at a limit.
- Investor and master password
- An MT5 or MT4 account has two passwords. The investor password can only look. The master password can trade.
The rules these tools try to protect
Prop firm rules differ, but five come up again and again: a daily loss limit, a maximum loss, a news rule around high-impact releases, a size cap in lots, and a rule about holding trades over the weekend. Break one and the challenge fails or the funded account closes. That is why traders pay for a second pair of eyes on the account.
The tools below solve the same problem in different ways. The main question is not which one is strongest. It is whether you want a warning while you still decide, or a hard stop that decides for you.
The tools, in a few lines each
PropJournal
A web journal built around prop firm rules, with presets for 50+ firms. It syncs MT4, MT5 and cTrader accounts or imports a statement file, then checks drawdown and daily loss against your firm's rules each time trades are synced or imported. It sends Telegram and email alerts at 70% and 90% of your limits. Free for 1 account and 50 trades a month; Pro is $19 a month with unlimited accounts. We found nothing about news rules or closing trades.
Traders Connect
A cloud trade copier (no EA, no VPS) for MT4, MT5, cTrader, Match Trader, TradeLocker, DXtrade and other platforms. Its Equity Protection watches equity around the clock against a drawdown or a minimum equity you set, with your own daily reset time. When hit, it can disable the copier, close copied trades or close every trade on the account. Its help center marks Equity Protection as beta. The pricing page lists an economic news calendar; we found no page explaining how it is used. The follower account needs the trading password.
Duplikium
A cloud trade copier from Switzerland for MT4, MT5, cTrader, DXtrade and others. Its Global Account Protection can trigger on daily net loss, daily drawdown from the day's peak, a fixed equity floor or open losses, and then close all trades, stop copying or block new trades. It can cap position size for the whole account. Duplikium says the closes use market orders and cannot guarantee the final equity. It needs the trading login, and we found no news filter.
MT5 protector EAs: KT Equity Protector and News Filter Protector
Two examples from the MQL5 Market. KT Equity Protector MT5 ($30 once) watches the whole account from one chart: daily loss with a safety buffer, maximum drawdown (static or trailing), profit target and a Friday close. When a limit is near it can alert, close losing trades or close everything and remove other EAs. News Filter Protector ($45 once, or $30 for a month) reads the MT5 built-in calendar, closes trades a set number of minutes before high-impact news and blocks new trades for a while after. Both need the MT5 terminal running with Algo Trading switched on.
FxMind
Links MT5 and MT4 accounts with the investor password. You pick the firm and the account size and its rules load (10 forex firms, 641 presets), or you build your own from 65 rule types. From Trader ($49 a month), Prop Rule Guard watches live equity for daily loss, total loss, news and size rules and warns at 70% and 90% of a limit, by email and push; News Guard warns before high-impact news lands on an open trade, with the usual move next to your stop distance. Acting is Pro ($89 a month): on an account you link with the master password, you choose alert only, ask then act (60 seconds to cancel), or act at once. It can close a trade, close half, move the stop or cancel orders, and it never opens or adds to a trade. Pro also has the prop-rule simulator, which runs your last days against a firm's challenge. The Strategy Lab, on every plan, is there to find out what a rule does to a strategy before a challenge fee is on the line: replay past prices bar by bar, trade them on paper, and read the drawdown the way the firm will. MT5 and MT4 link today; cTrader and Match-Trader are next.
Prices side by side
Duplikium prices are in euros and count both the account you copy from and the accounts you copy to. MQL5 prices are per purchase; an activation is one install.
For three accounts, the monthly bill works out to $19 on PropJournal Pro, $30 on Traders Connect Standard if those three are the only accounts billed there, and $89 on FxMind Pro (FxMind Trader is $49 for 2 accounts). An equity protector EA costs $30 once, plus a VPS if your computer is not on while you trade.
The 14-day trial is full Pro, no card, with 100 analyst questions a month and 3 strategy drafts a day; trade ideas are included.

What only FxMind does
Checked against the products researched on 30 September 2026 (their own pages first). Each line is something we did not find at any of them.
- A live MT4 and MT5 link with the read-only investor password. No EA, no install: open trades and profit in seconds. Others re-sync every few hours, need an EA, take statements or sell real time as an add-on.
- News at the moment of every trade. Each trade says whether you opened it inside a high-impact release or held it through one, with the usual move measured on our own candles.
- Prop rules watched live, before the breach. 10 firms and 641 presets for forex, warnings by email and push, and actions on the accounts you allow, with your own limits on top. The AI never opens a trade for you.
- An analyst whose every sentence cites a stored fact: your trades, the calendar, COT, headlines, candles and prop rules. Trade ideas are on every paid plan and in the 14-day trial; each has Open in ticket, which fills the desk's order ticket with the idea's entry, stop and target for you to check, size and send. Nothing is sent automatically.
- A trading desk on your own MT4 or MT5 account, with a rule check before you send. No journal we researched has order entry.
- Community with verified results. A setup's result in R and pips comes from the broker link, not from what the poster types. Following is your choice, and the trade is managed automatically only if you allow it.
- Practice on the real rules. Practise a prop challenge with the same engine as the live guard, or a past release with its usual move.
- English, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese across the app, the analyst and the briefs.
Warn first or act first
A hard stop protects the account even when you are asleep or not looking. It also closes trades at market at the worst moment, sometimes a trade you wanted to keep, and it needs trading access: a trading password in the cloud, or an EA in a terminal that must stay on. Some firms restrict EAs, copiers, automated trading or logins from shared servers, so read your firm's rules before you install one.
A warning keeps the decision with you, and FxMind does it on a read-only link by default. The trade-off is time: you must see the warning and act. On Pro you can add a middle step on accounts you choose: FxMind asks, waits 60 seconds for you to cancel, then closes the trade, closes half or moves the stop. On our demo account a close took 119 ms (thousandths of a second).
Who each one is for
Which FxMind plan: for a prop account, Trader ($49 a month, 2 accounts) is the one that warns, with the firm's rules loaded from the presets. Pro ($89 a month, 3 accounts) is the one that acts, and it adds order entry with a rule check and the prop-rule simulator. Compare them on /pricing or read the full list on /features.
Using a hard stop and FxMind together
They can sit side by side. Some traders set a hard stop close to the firm's limit, for example with an EA or a copier's equity protection, and use FxMind's warnings at 70% and 90% to stop earlier on their own terms. Keep the numbers consistent, so the warning always comes before the hard stop, and check your firm's rules on EAs first.
Questions
- 01
Are equity protector EAs allowed at prop firms?
It depends on the firm and the program. Some firms restrict EAs or automated trading. Read your firm's rules before you install one, and ask support if the page is not clear.
- 02
Can FxMind stop me from opening a trade?
No. FxMind has no EA in your terminal. It sees a trade about a tick after your broker accepts it, then warns you, and on accounts you allow it can close, reduce or move the stop. It never opens or adds to a trade.
- 03
Which tool is the cheapest?
PropJournal has a free plan for 1 account, and its Pro plan is $19 a month. KT Equity Protector MT5 is $30 once. FxMind Trader is $49 a month for 2 accounts and warns; Pro is $89 a month for up to 3 accounts and can act.
- 04
Does FxMind need my master password?
No. By default it uses the investor password, which can only look at the account. It asks for the master password only on accounts where you want it to act.
- 05
What do the 70% and 90% warnings mean in dollars?
On a $5,000 daily loss limit, the first warning comes when the day's loss reaches $3,500 and the second at $4,500.
