Build trading habits that stick: streaks, a real notebook, and never missing the news

Short answer

  • The habit tracker gives you four suggested daily items and checks the measurable ones itself: a stop on every trade, no trade inside a high-impact news window, a journal note written, and a cap on trades that day.
  • A day counts as clean only when every active item is checked and you actually traded or journaled. A day with neither is left out of your streak and your grid, so a rest day never breaks it.
  • The notebook now has folders (Daily journal, Trade notes, Session recaps, plus your own), note tags, search, a 30-day trash, and a PDF export for any note.
  • Calendar export keeps you out of the one habit item you cannot fix after the fact: a personal ICS feed, a public one per currency, and an add-to-Google-Calendar link on every event.

Words used here

Clean day
A day where you traded or journaled, and every active habit item was checked, by FxMind or by hand.
Streak
How many clean days in a row, counting backwards from today, skipping days with no activity at all rather than treating them as a miss.
Year grid
A six-month calendar of clean, missed and inactive days, the same idea as a habit-tracking app's year view.
ICS feed
A calendar file format most calendar apps (Google, Apple, Outlook) can subscribe to, so events keep updating on their own.

Four items, and which ones check themselves

The first time you open the habit tracker, it seeds four suggested items: a stop on every trade, no trade opened inside a high-impact news window, a journal note written for the day, and at most a handful of trades in one day. Each one is computed fresh, every time you look, straight from your own trades and notes, so there is never a stale checkmark to keep in sync by hand when a trade changes later. Add your own items alongside these, for anything FxMind cannot read from your data; a plain item like that is always ticked by hand, never guessed.

Why a rest day never breaks your streak

A day only counts toward your streak, in either direction, if something happened on it: a trade, or a journal entry. A day with neither is skipped entirely, not scored as a miss, so a weekend or a planned day off never resets what you have built. On a day that does have activity, every active item has to be checked for it to count as clean. Your current streak walks backwards from today over clean days, stepping past inactive ones, until it hits a day that had activity and was not clean; your longest streak is the best such run anywhere in the visible six-month grid.

A notebook that organises itself around how you already write

The daily notebook and a trade's own note both still work exactly as before; what is new is a place to see all of it together. Three folders exist for every trader from the start, Daily journal, Trade notes and Session recaps, and an older note you wrote before this shipped sorts itself into the right one automatically, based on whether it is a day note, a trade note, or neither. Add as many of your own folders as you like, tag notes with your own small vocabulary (kept separate from your trade setup and mistake tags on purpose), and search across everything by title or body.

  • Trash, not delete: a removed note sits for 30 days before it is actually gone, and it disappears from every place a note is shown, not only the notebook's own list.
  • Notes to PDF: any note, printed through the same PDF pipeline your reports already use, with its folder and tags on the page.
  • A freeform note kind: writing that is not about one specific day or one specific trade, filed under Session recaps by default.

Never missing the news, the other way round

One habit item is "no trade inside a high-impact news window", and the easiest way to keep it is never to be surprised by the news in the first place. An Add to Google Calendar link sits on every event in FxMind's own calendar, no setup needed. For the whole picture at once, turn on a personal calendar feed: a private link, off by default, covering up to 8 of the major currencies you pick, that any calendar app can subscribe to and that keeps itself current. Turning it on always makes a fresh link, and a Rotate button kills the old one on demand, so a link you shared once by mistake stops working for good. A public version of the same feed, per currency, needs no sign-in at all and is linked from FxMind's own public calendar page.

Which plan includes this

The habit tracker, the notebook's folders and tags, and calendar export are all on every plan, Free included. They are tools for building a routine, and a routine is worth having before you are paying for the parts of FxMind that act on an account.

Two more tools for the same routine, and the plans. On Today, Start my day shows the day's releases on your pairs, your limits and one line of plan; Finish my day rates the day and saves what to keep and what to stop. Both are on every plan. Alerts before the releases you pick, the next step after the calendar feed, start on Trader ($49 a month). See /features and /pricing.

Questions

  1. 01

Can I edit the four suggested habit items?

You can add your own items alongside them. The four measured ones (stop on every trade, no trade in a news window, a note written, a trade cap) are fixed for now; the trade cap itself is set at 5 a day.

  2. 02

Does a day with no trading count against my streak?

No. A day with no trading and no journal entry is left out of the streak and the grid entirely, rather than counted as a miss.

  3. 03

What happens to a note I delete?

It moves to trash for 30 days and disappears everywhere a note would normally show, including reports and the shared trade page. You can restore it inside that window.

  4. 04

How many currencies can my personal calendar feed cover?

Up to 8 of the majors, chosen by you. The public per-currency feed needs no sign-in and covers one currency at a time.

  5. 05

Which plan do I need for the habit tracker or calendar export?

Neither needs a paid plan. Both are on every plan, including Free.
